+++ Now that we have given up buying war-mongering newspapers, we rely on the web and the radio more than ever for info. I jump from listening to Village 900 AM from Camosun College, to the FM band and Espace Musique from Montreal, to CBC Vancouver, to KUOW, to NWPR, and even occasionally to CBC Victoria and CFUV at UVic. ++ While listening to something African just now on Espace Musique, it occurs to me that some of the very few reports I hear of classical music in Victoria come via NWPR, and in particular, their morning hostess, Robin Rilette. This morning she mentioned that the Victoria Chamber Orchestra will be playing ‘Bach’s salute to the Pacific Northwest’s favorite beverage,’ the Coffee Cantata and Handel’s Water Music at the Metropolitan Church tonight, Friday, February 22 at 8:00: http://www.victoriachamberorchestra.org/seasonc.htm. The Metropolitan Church is located at 932 Balmoral and Quadra Streets, contact: Don Kissinger @ (250) 514 89116, or email: donkissinger@shaw.ca. ++ The first tragedy is that I hear this on an American station, with all due respect. The second is that this info is not being broadcast from Victoria where the event is happening. Kudos to NWPR, Robin Rilette, Don Kissinger and the Victoria Chamber Orchestra players for getting the information out, despite the appalling philistinism that reigns supreme here. +++
