Do You Believe In Magic?

What do our Canadian government and Harry Potter have in common? They both believe in magic. While Harry Potter suddenly brings inanimate objects to life with a few words and the flick of a wand, our Canadian government does the same with a few words and the flick of a pen. According to the Harper administration, babies magically become human at the moment of birth. Beforehand, they are as worthless as a broken wand.

On Monday, May 27th, twenty-five year old Angelica Spandisappeared in a Toronto courtroom facing charges of first-degree murder. Her crime: giving birth to her newborn and dumping the child in a used clothing bin.

Coincidentally, the Canadian Centre for Bioethical Reform announced on that same day the new target of their Face the Children campaign: Conservative MP Bal Gosal from the Toronto riding of Bramalea-Gore-Malton. His crime: voting against Motion 312, a private members motion which would have re-examined when human life begins, thus voting in favour of unrestricted abortion-on-demand.

The difference between Ms. Spandis’ crime and the current position held by MP Gosal is mere semantics. If Ms. Sandis had her baby killed hours earlier, she would have had the full-support of MP Bosal, Prime Minister Harper and much of the Canadian government. Instead she is on trial for first-degree murder because of a simple time difference. Our government has long since favoured magic over science by defining our humanity in accordance with how old we are, and not by our individual existence.

Given the banality of the law, there is a very good chance Ms. Spandis will not even get jail-time. During the 2011 trial of Katrina Effert, a nineteen year old Albertan woman who strangled her newborn and threw the baby over the fence, Justice Joanne Veit of the Albertan Court of Queen’s Bench threw out the second-degree murder charges found by a jury and replaced it with the lesser charge of infanticide. Her reason: Canada’s lack of abortion law.

“While many Canadians undoubtedly view abortion as a less than ideal solution to unprotected sex and unwanted pregnancy”, Justice Veit admitted, “they generally understand, accept and sympathize with the onerous demands pregnancy and childbirth exact from mothers, especially mothers without support.”

So now you must ask yourself: do you believe in magic, or do you believe in science? Are you fed up with Canada’s total disregard for human life- born and preborn, or are you content in your apathetic stupor?

Do You Believe In Magic?

Will you vote for pro-abortion MPs in 2015 (like the Prime Minister of Canada, above),

or will you vote for those who are in favour of the fundamental right to life?

Do not fool yourself into thinking that your voice, or your vote does not matter.

There is a strong pro-life grassroots movement brewing in Canada full of young, energetic and ambitious Canadians who will not settle for anything less than the total protection for human life.

Will you join us, or will you settle for 20 more years of prenatal and postnatal genocide?

MP Mark Warawa said it best at [a recent] March for Life: “once we have the truth we are responsible to do something about it”.

With truth comes responsibility; with responsibility comes action.

There’s no magic in that.
