CATALUNYA + VENETO SECESSION VOTES, by Ryan McMaken @ LewRockwell.com + LA ROSA

Secession Update: Catalonia and Veneto

Print

Barcelona_Iglesia_Sagrada_FamiliaOn Sunday, the Catalonia region of Spain held an “informal” or “symbolic” referendum on Catalonian independence.  It was “symbolic” because Madrid politicians have declared it to be illegal, and  ”a sterile and useless sham.” The Guardian concludes that a legal one is now inevitable.

Catalonia is one of the most industrialized (and consequently) most lucrative areas of the country from which to extract tax revenue that can subsidize poorer and less-productive regions of Spain.  Naturally, those who benefit from such coerced largesse are enthusiastically opposed to Catalonian independence. (The centralists claim that Catalonia agitates for more government spending in Catalonia, and is thus living off the Spanish taxpayer, although it appears fairly clear that the region is simply attempting to get the central government to spend more of Catalonia’s money in Catalonia.)

As a political tactic, the Catalonian vote appears to have been at least moderately effective. More than 1.8 million people appear to have voted for independence (80 percent of those who voted) . Such numbers are hardly the last word (there are 5.4 million voters total), but if Madrid continues its current stance, it will become more and more difficult to describe as a position that amounts to anything other than “might makes right.”

According to Reuters, the Madrid government has now decided that maybe it should actually negotiate with the separatists, rather than merely dismiss them as sterile and useless.

Italy is currently using a similar tactic with the recent independence vote in Veneto. PressTV reported last week on the latest moves from the pro-independence movement in the region:

“The Veneto is self-governed as an independent state – it was called La Serenissima, an organization that has a distinguished history, and that had nothing to do with Italy for 1,100 years. Meanwhile our attachment to the Italian state is no more than 148 years. It’s absurd compared with our history,” [Alessio Morosin] added.

Morosin said Venetian officials are concerned that Italy’s paralyzing economic crisis would also affect Veneto, adding that the region’s independence from Rome will improve its economic situation.

We’ve noted some of the details of the Veneto referendum here at Mises.org.

JOSH STEFFLER IS INSPIRED BY KENNEDY’S FAMOUS SPEECH AGAINST SECRET SOCIETIES’ INFLUENCE

Published October 21, 2014 by goyodelarosa

Inspiration from JFK on Government secrecy

JFK was a statesman and one of my inspirations. Sadly all too often we have way too much secrecy in our government. All too often does council go behind closed doors to discuss OUR money, and OUR community, only to never disclose these discssions.

I have some concerns about government secrecy, and I believe in a much more open and transparent government in Esquimalt. Example our recent council decision to leave Victoria PD and go with RCMP. I was not consulted…..were YOU? This is YOUR community, these should be decisions YOU are involved in. Is there any wonder why more and more people are disengaged from politics?

A vote for Josh is a vote against decisions behind closed doors. A vote for Josh is a vote against government secrecy.

Privacy is important in our PRIVATE lives, yet when we are doing the public work, it should be in the light of day, open and on display for all to see. There is a clear divide from our private lives, and yes even politicians have private lives, but when they are on the public job doing the public business, it has not place behind locked and closed doors.

I hope I can count on just 1 of your 6 votes this Nov.15th for Esquimalt council

How to Shred the Index Card of Allowable Opinion

Email Print

I think most people know what I mean when I speak of the gatekeepers of permissible discussion.

On the left, sites like ThinkProgress and Media Matters smear and attack those uppity peons who stray from the ideological plantation that the Washington Post and the New York Times oversee.

On the right it’s neoconservative sites like the Free Beacon, who have built a nice little cabin on that plantation, and who rat out anyone who tries to run away.

Why, we don’t hold any of the dangerous views of those libertarians, good Mr. New York Times reporter, sir!

We are nice and respectable, and we’ll be sure to keep a close eye on those awful subversives who, probably because of some mental defect, are unsatisfied with the Hillary-to-Romney spectrum to which we have been urged to confine ourselves.

The respectables of left and right do not deign to show where we’re wrong, of course.

The very fact that we’ve strayed from the approved spectrum is refutation enough. That’s why I’ve called these people the thought controllers, the commissars, or the enforcers of approved opinion.

Let me modify that: once in a while they do try to show where we’re wrong, but they can almost never manage even to state our position correctly, much less muster an effective argument against it.

These purpose of these alleged replies is not to shed light, but to demonize libertarians in the public mind.

In Real Dissent: A Libertarian Sets Fire to the Index Card of Allowable Opinion – my first book in nearly four years – I take aim at these critics and their arguments.

Part I covers foreign policy and war. The regime has fostered more confusion among the public over these issues than any other. Conservatives, of all people, wind up supporting courses of action that (1) expand the power of the state over civil society; (2) are justified on the basis of propaganda they’d laugh at if it came from the mouths of Saddam Hussein or Nikita Khrushchev; and (3) violate the absolute standards of morality that conservatives never tire of telling us are under assault. The antiwar reputation of left-liberals, meanwhile, is almost entirely undeserved; the mainstream left supported every major U.S. war of the twentieth century.

Conservatives no doubt consider themselves cheeky and anti-establishment for supporting U.S. military interventions, yet virtually all major U.S. newspapers supported the two wars in Iraq and have called for a belligerent posture against Iran. If conservatives think they’re sticking it to the New York Times by supporting the federal government’s wars, they are deceiving themselves. It was the New York Times’ Judith Miller, for instance, who later became notorious for her uncritical acceptance of war propaganda. Hillary Clinton and John Kerry were every bit as belligerent as George W. Bush – Kerry even said in 2004 that he would be less likely than Bush to withdraw troops from Iraq, and proposed sending an additional 40,000.

Against this bipartisan consensus, anyone advocating a consistent policy of nonintervention abroad – the correct libertarian and conservative position, if you ask me – can expect to be marginalized and ignored. Meanwhile, the interventions of the past dozen years have backfired spectacularly, as Ron Paul and other noninterventionists predicted they would.

I put this part of the book front and center because I myself have so much penance to do. As a younger man I was a Rush Limbaugh listener and a garden-variety neoconservative. I cheered on every government intervention abroad, I accepted all the official rationales, and I demonized opponents and skeptics as America haters. I then realized I was just the flipside of a typical left-liberal, who cheered on every government intervention at home, accepted all the official rationales, and demonized opponents and skeptics as haters of the poor.

With both left and right cheering on the state in one capacity or another, the prospects for scaling it back are dim. The whole package, the whole tissue of lies, needs to be confronted.

Part II is a defense of the free-market economy against some of the most common arguments. Here my opponents don’t necessarily fall into the thought-control category. But many of the arguments I’m replying to are of the only-an-ideologue-could-disagree-with-me variety. Why, “monopolies” would dominate if you libertarians had your way! Everyone would earn ten cents an hour! Advertisers would manipulate consumers!

Those arguments and many others are the first to go.

Part III takes on some of the attacks on libertarianism launched by mainstream outlets over the past several years. It seems a week hardly goes by without one. I never get more feedback than when I take on critics like these and send them home crying to their mothers. This part of the book collects a bunch of these replies.

In Part IV I assess the significance of the Ron Paul phenomenon. Ron was everything the establishment fears: a plain-spoken truth-teller, a man without pretense, a fearless slayer of sacred cows. He refused to fit into any of the stultifying categories into which our opinion-molders try to pigeonhole anyone and everything. He was anti-state and antiwar – the very epitome of consistency, though most conservatives (and liberals, for that matter) found this an inexplicable contradiction.

(Ron himself contributed a generous foreword to Real Dissent, I’m happy to note.)

The Federal Reserve is the subject of Part V. Talk about outside allowable opinion: opposition to the Fed was nowhere to be found within mainstream American political life for nearly one hundred years after the central bank’s creation at the end of 1913. Today, enlightened opinion is appalled at having to acknowledge the existence of critics who question the wisdom of the wise custodians of their monetary system. But given the Fed’s track record, the naïve confidence that mainstream left and right expect us to repose in the Federal Reserve would be misplaced.

Part VI corrects the historical record on topics ranging from labor unions to presidential war powers to state nullification. Here you’ll find my much-discussed confrontation with radio host Mark Levin, whose idea of a debate is to call his opponent an idiot and not let his supporters read for themselves what that person has written. By contrast, I was more than happy to link my readers to Levin’s responses, especially since I was certain I had won our debate.

In Part VII, a short section, I gently correct certain libertarians who spend their time assuring respectable opinion that they are altogether different from those extreme libertarians like Woods, and that they’re really quite obedient and observant when it comes to issues Americans have been instructed not to discuss.

There are three more parts, but you get the idea. Of my twelve books, I think this one is the most enjoyable to read, and I’ve filled it with arguments you can use in debates of your own.

The appropriate response to the index card of allowable opinion to which the political and media classes expect us to confine ourselves is to set it on fire. This book is a match.

Frustrated Fairfield residential property taxpayer Richard Brunt still waiting after 17 days for answers from Lisa Helps, Councillor seeking to be Victoria Mayor

Published October 11, 2014 by goyodelarosa

Councillor Lisa Helps is contemptuous of what she calls the ‘vagaries of the market,’ maintaining that freezing the mill rate in Victoria would inhibit the City from meeting its budget requirements.

Without mentioning  any of her rivals for the Mayoral position she seeks, Lisa Helps is clearly addressing Ida Chong’s ideas about freezing the mill rate, and suggesting those ideas are too drastic to implement:

http://www.lisahelpsvictoria.ca/property_taxes_101

“Freezing the Mill Rate is Not Freezing Taxes

Freezing the mill rate means that if the assessed value of properties goes up, taxes will go up. If the assessed value of property goes down, taxes will go down. In both cases, control of city finances is surrendered to the vagaries of the market. Property owners could find themselves paying dramatically more, or the City’s budget might have a hole blown in it. And, worst of all, we wouldn’t know it until the year in question. Remember, the City only gets the assessment information in January of the budget year. This is no way to govern an organization that is run with public dollars.

Finally, freezing the mill rate would prevent the City from continuing to re-balance between residential and business taxes. In 2010, the business mill rate was 3.59 to 1 versus the residential mill rate. Today it is 3.18 to 1. We’ve made a bit of progress in the past few years and I will keep working on this for the next four.”

She is completely status quo on residential property taxes, wanting to reduce the tax burden on the business property taxpayers, and ‘re-balance’ it with an increase in residential property tax, in other words, which may explain why she has not addressed the concerns of a frustrated Fairfield taxpayer who left a comment at her website…17 days ago.

If this embarrassing delay in attending to a  critical comment by a potential voter on her own website is any indication of the speed and care that would be taken by a Mayor Lisa Helps, well, let us just say she clearly needs more help in Real Life Economics 101 …

StasCan tells us that our real incomes (after inflation) have not moved since the 1990s. Yet City of Victoria workers continue to get generous raises. I’ve just heard they got 2% each year for 3 years. Inflation is 1.4%. Please, please tell me you are not giving city workers wage increases well in excess of inflation, every year. If that is true, I want to know if you supported it.

Secondly, CFAX reported that the new police chief is receiving well over $200,000 per year, and that this is $20,000 more than the last police chief. Did you vote for that?

Every year, city council seems to take great pride in raising property taxes in the order of ‘only’ 3% or 3.5%. That is not success – that is failure. 3% is over 100% greater that the inflation rate.

Taxes are over $5,000 on my modest Fairfield home. It is unaffordable. I want serious cuts, and reduced taxes, after 10 years of astonishing tax increases. Not more tax increases tied to inflation. That goes nowhere near far enough.

I don’t know what your polling says, but around here, people are talking about just a few things – taxes, the bridge (taxes), and sewage treatment (taxes).

On this 9/11: Why John F. Kennedy was Killed by the Deep State in America’s First Coup D’etat

FacebookTwitter

On this 13th anniversary of America’s second coup d’etat, which happened on September 11th, 2001…

My, how times have changed. Listening to JFK give a speech on April 27, 1961, to the American Newspaper Publishers Association, and then watching his commencement address to the American University in 1963, it is easy to see why America’s deep state removed him from office in a coup d’etat, on November 22nd, 1963.

While the journalists in the crowd undoubtedly thought JFK was talking here below about the Soviet Union, looking back on history since then, one has to believe that he was talking about his own country’s deep state: America’s CIA/FBI/NSA/DIA/Joint Chiefs of Staff/Mafia government. After all, he had fired the assassination and government overthrow maniac Allen Dulles, as head of the CIA in 1961, promising,

I want to splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds.

As the true puppeteers and heads of the American state, the CIA was not about to let this happen. Furthermore, he refused to nuke Cuba, did not support the Bay of Pigs invasion, compromised with Khrushchev over the Cuban missile crisis and had signed an executive order to remove all US forces from Southeast Asia. So, he earned the hatred of the blood thirsty Joint Chiefs of Staff and America’s worldwide Wehrmacht. Not to mention, his Attorney General brother, Robert, was tearing Mafia families new rectums, thus engendering the hatred of the CIA’s right hand partners in crime, La Cosa Nostra. Here is what Kennedy said to the journalists:

We are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence–on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day.

It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations” Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed.

Sounds familiar today?

Listen to and read the full transcript of Kennedy’s 1961 speech to journalists.

During his 1963 commencement speech, JFK pleaded for peace the way presidents Clinton, Bush I and II and Obama lust for war. He announced sweeping treaty talks with the Soviets in tandem with Harold McMillan, the conservative Prime Minister of Britain at the time. For American Empire, whose domination of the world depends on total war, Kennedy’s sentiments expressed in this address were tantamount to treason. Eerily, many of the points he brought up in this talk about what the United States would never do around the world, were already happening through the evil offices of the deep state, and which have exploded exponentially since 1980.

JFK’s Commencement Address at American University, June 10, 1963. The United States experienced it’s first coup d’etat, just five months later, when he was killed by America’s deep state

America’s 1963 coup d’etat had profound implications for the future of the country, and for the entire planet. Emboldened by it’s success, the deep state committed and continues to cause hundreds of assassinations, government overthrows and regime changes across the globe – all of which changed the course of human history. The American run Gladio secret armies in Europe are still thriving, murdering, regime changing and making a mockery of the Old Continent’s farcical, managed and controlled “democracy”. Stateside, it’s even worse. Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and thousands more led shortened lives, for getting in the way of the deep state’s objectives. 9/11 was just another, more audacious false flag event to scare Americans into accepting a neo-fascist police state and to justify the slaughter of millions of Muslims across our Pale Blue Dot, while stealing their natural resources, colonial style. It also allowed the deep state to pull off it’s second American coup d’etat. That day, George II was was illegally removed from office under the program of continuity of government. During this brief military rule, the country radically changed its foreign policy and defense. On this day, all members of Congress and their staff were placed by the military authority under house arrest in the government complexes at Greenbrier and Mount Weather, Virginia. Dick Cheney, the avatar of the deep state, was large and in charge.

Now, through Ukraine and America’s imperial pivot to Asia, Russia and China enter the cross hairs of Uncle Sam’s fascist plan to rule the world and control its resources via military excess.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy must by crying in his grave.

Altered History: Exposing Deceit and Deception in the JFK Assassination Medical Evidence

Early this morning I finished viewing Douglas P. Horne’s authoritative FFF video series,Altered History: Exposing Deceit and Deception in the JFK Assassination Medical Evidence. The Future of Freedom president Jacob Hornberger and Douglas Horne are to be commended for this outstanding project regarding the truth behind the JFK assassination.

Horne is the former Chief Analyst for Military Records for the Assassination Records Review Board (ARRB), established by the JFK Records Act of 1992, which was tasked with defining, locating, and ensuring the declassification (to the maximum extent possible under the JFK Act) of all Federal Records considered “reasonably related” to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Horne details the numerous anomalies and interrupted chain of custody and destruction of key evidence regarding the president’s body, in the autopsy report(s), the autopsy photo collection (particularly the JFK brain photographs), the deliberate alterationand forgery of the extant Zapruder film, and the supposed “magic bullet” found at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Horne has previously written at LRC concerning “Photographic Evidence of Bullet Hole in JFK Limousine Windshield ‘Hiding in Plain Sight,’” and other related subjects.

I have over sixty books on the assassination and the Kennedys but this video series nevertheless blew me away and caused me to marvel at the in-depth meticulous research of Horne and the mind-boggling audacity of the conspirators behind the cover-up. It more than ever confirms the hypothesis of James W. DouglassDavid S. Lifton, and John Judge regarding the involvement of elements of the Joint Chiefs, CIA, and other top echelon of the National Security State in the coup d’état’s murder and cover-up. Because of what occurred before, during, and after the autopsy at Bethesda Naval Hospital, John Judge’s specific indictment of Naval Intelligence takes on an even greater importance.

Accordingly today I purchased via the LRC Amazon portal the entire five volume series of Douglas Horne’s Inside the Assassination Records Review Board: The U.S. Government’s Final Attempt to Reconcile the Conflicting Medical Evidence in the Assassination of JFK. I strongly urge all LRC readers view this crucial five-part video series and purchase the five volumes.

‘There are no holes in the ozone,’ maintains Victoria’s realist climatologist Dr. Tim Ball @ LewRockwell.com + LA ROSA

UN Global Warming Propaganda Campaign:

Return to Perceived Success Indicates Desperation.

Email Print

FacebookTwitter

They’re releasing a series of films to, as WMO Secretary General Michel Jarroud said,

“paint a compelling picture of what life could be like on a warmer planet,”…“Climate change is already leading to more extreme weather such as intense heat and rain…We need to act now.”

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Reports are the basis for the films. It is bureaucratic incest, since Maurice Strong set up the IPCC through the WMO. The films are scenarios of the future that imply are based on good science. They can’t be correct because every prediction the IPCC ever made, from their inception in 1990, was wrong. If the prediction is wrong, the science is wrong.

On Wednesday September 10, 2014 the UN announced that the ozone layer was recovering. They said,

“Experts said it showed the success of a 1987 ban on man-made gases that damage the fragile high-altitude screen, an achievement that would help prevent millions of cases of skin cancer and other conditions.”

We are not told who the experts are, but the ban they reference is the Montreal Protocol. It is too convenient and likely part of the campaign to push for a global climate Protocol at the September 23rd meeting. Headline to the story says, “Ozone layer shows first sign of recovery, UN says.” That is incorrect. In 2003, Andrew Revkin reported a similar claim in the New York Times. He wrote,

Scientists monitoring the highest levels of the atmosphere say they have detected a slowing in the rate of destruction of Earth’s protective veil of ozone, the first sign that the phasing out of chemicals that harm the ozone layer is having a restorative effect.

Now the UN is setting up for the September 23rd meeting using the ozone layer issue as a template for action on CO2. It is understandable from their perspective, because they tout it as a victory. It wasn’t! The ozone story parallels and was effectively a trial run for CO2 and Kyoto. They want a similar protocol, but are challenged because Kyoto failed.

Some of the same people who created and pushed the ozone issue were also deeply involved in CO2 and the IPCC. Susan Solomon, is a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration employee, described by Wikipedia as follows;

Her work formed the basis of the U.N. Montreal Protocol, an international agreement to protect the ozone layer by regulating damaging chemicals. Solomon served the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. She was a contributing author for the Third Assessment Report. She was also Co-Chair of Working Group I for the Fourth Assessment Report.

The Ozone Issue

The Montreal Protocol is a template, but not for pushing the need for a Climate Protocol. It is a template for how ozone destruction by human produced Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) was a test run for the deception that human CO2 is causing global warming. It’s a template, not because it worked, but because it was completely unnecessary, cost a lot of money and created a multitude of other problems. It is a template because humans were blamed for atmospheric ozone destruction without evidence, while natural processes were ignored.

They said CFCs would remain in the atmosphere for up to 100 years, as they did with CO2. As recently as September 2012, they said recovery of the ozone would take a very long time.

The ozone layer outside the Polar regions will take 40 years to recover to its pre-1980 levels, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said Friday.

But they also said,

The ozone layer over the Antarctic is expected to recover much later.

It only appears the Montreal Protocol worked because there was no problem in the first place. Variations in ozone were perfectly natural. Now, they need to use it as a success for political reasons, even if it exposes the error of their claims. It is not about science, so the facts are arranged as required.

The Ozone Deception

A major tenet of the environmental paradigm is that almost all change is due to human activity. Once a change is determined, it triggers a search for the human cause, usually ignoring natural change.

The British Antarctic survey team determined in the early 1980s that ozone levels were lower than measures taken in 1957. Press reports were sensationalist and created the idea this was abnormal. James Lovelock, the British scientist who proposed the Gaia hypothesis, warned against overreaction, but was ignored because the issue suited environmental hysteria.

Once designated unnatural, the search for a human cause began. Lab experiments by Sherwood and Molina in 1974 determined chlorine as the active ingredient in chlorofluorocarbon that destroys ozone. They did not recreate the temperature and pressure conditions in the ozone layer at some 20 km over Antarctica. They produced a static condition when the major natural mechanism causing ozone variation over Antarctica is an intense atmospheric circulation system associated with the Circumpolar Vortex. Because of the land/water juxtapositions, it is far more intense than in the Arctic. Their work was fundamental to the hypothesis that CFCs (commercial name Freon), which are four times denser than air, were carried to the lower stratosphere, where the chlorine portion, which is indistinguishable from natural source chlorine, destroyed ozone. As Richard Lindzen said about global warming and CO2, the consensus was reached before the research had begun.

The Evidence

There are no holes in the ozone. There were none when it became a political issue in the 1990s and none today. This is not just semantics, but an important fact in the relationship between scientific accuracy, the public perception and political reaction. Ozone levels vary considerably in different regions, at different altitudes and over time. The so-called “ozone hole” is a region in the ozone layer generally located over Antarctica, although it moves around with changes in the Circumpolar Vortex. Ozone level is lowest during the Southern Hemisphere winter, at which time ozone concentration is approximately 1/3 of the global average. It is an area of thinning due to natural causes.

Hypotheses are only as valid as the assumptions on which they are derived. A basic assumption of the ozone hypothesis is that sunlight is constant, including the ultraviolet portion of the spectrum. That assumption forces you to assume that any variation in ozone levels is not caused by solar variations. We know now that the original assumption of constant sunlight and therefore constant ultraviolet radiation is incorrect. As a NASA Report explains,

Though UV solar radiation makes up a much smaller portion of the TSI than infrared or visible radiation, UV solar radiation tends to change much more dramatically over the course of solar cycles.

When portions of ultraviolet light (UV) strike free atmospheric oxygen it splits the oxygen (O2) into single oxygen (O) molecules. These quickly combine in threes to create ozone (O3). The entire process is called photo-disassociation. This process occurs variously from 20 to 40 km above the surface in the Ozone Layer. The system is self-correcting because as more ultraviolet penetrates deeper into the atmosphere it confronts more free oxygen (O2). By 15 km above the surface, over 95% of the UV has been expended in the creation of ozone.

Like the anthropogenic global warming hypothesis (AGW), research continued in spite of media and political acceptance. It was determined that a major cause of changes in the size and extent of the Antarctic ozone hole are the intense wind patterns and circulations associated with the extensive Antarctic high-pressure zone and the surrounding wind pattern known as the Circumpolar Vortex. A second factor is Polar Stratospheric Cloud (PSC) that form when gases including water vapor sublimate directly to crystals because of the intensely low temperatures (-70°C and below) and pressures over the South Pole.

Bureaucracies were established for CFCs, laws passed, and punishments determined for anyone using CFCs. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other national agencies are replicating this by identifying CO2 as a pollutant and toxic substance.

Ramifications

The attack on CFCs undermines another technology that, like fossil fuels, dramatically improved the quality of life. Refrigeration tackled the serious problem of food spoilage. In developing nations estimates claim 60% of food produced doesn’t make it to the table. The figure is 30% for developed nations. Loss reduction is due partly to reduced field and transportation loss, but mostly to spoilage in storage.

As a result, when the Montreal Protocol was proposed, India and China’s position was identical to their position with Kyoto and other attempts to restrict their development and improvement of standard of living. They said you’ve reduced your losses through refrigeration, now we want to reduce ours. You produced this product now want to ban it, claiming it is an environmental hazard. We suggest you reduce your levels and let us increase ours, to achieve the same benefits. The answer was no! As a result India and China did not participate in the Montreal Protocol, just as they are not part of Kyoto and oppose any other form of restriction. When I pointed out to the Parliamentary committee that India and China were not participating, the Chairman’s assistant disappeared to return 20 minutes later to say they produced less than 5 percent of the CFCs, so they were not significant.

Nurtured by environmental hysteria and the determination to show all changes in the natural world are due to human activity, the claim CFCs were destroying ozone jumped directly from an unproven hypothesis to a scientific fact. All the other ingredients were at hand; the big greedy corporation; the dangerous product; refrigeration that improved quality of life at the expense of the environment; and the fear factor of increased skin cancer, especially among children.

The political juggernaut was underway as fearful people demanded political action. Most actions did not and could not deal with the problem. Companies turned production of sun blockers into a multibillion-dollar industry even though their product didn’t, until a few years ago, deal with those portions of ultraviolet radiation that are harmful to the skin. Claims of increases in skin cancer failed to take into account increase in life expectancy or such anomalies as the lowest levels of skin cancer occurred in Colorado, the state with the highest levels of ultraviolet radiation due to altitude. Humans require ultraviolet radiation to produce vitamin D in the body. Inadequate levels lead to various diseases, including bone problems such as rickets in children and scrofula, a form of tuberculosis.

There are still no “holes in the ozone”, but the area of thinning over Antarctica continues to vary due to natural conditions. As the climate change deception falters, the counterattack builds. The UN realizes the New York meeting is critical, maybe even a ‘tipping point’. Out of desperation, they fall back on the illusionary “success” of the Montreal Protocol, thus risking the exposure of that charade.
